Touristic Information

Gastronomic specialities:

  • ‘tarte flambée’ and ‘quiche lorraine’ (salty cakes), sauerkraut, ‘backeoffe’, ‘waedele’, foie gras, game, ‘presskopf’, fish.
 Local drinks:

  • Beers, wines from Alsace; Pinot noir, Tokay Pinot gris, Riesling, Gewurtztraminer, Sylvaner, Crémant, Pinot blanc and Muscat d’Alsace.
To see:

  • Medieval castle in Lutzelbourg, Valley of Crystal and Pays d’Erckmann and Chatrian, Phalsbourg historical museum, crystal workshops, the Dabo rock, the tourist train at Abreschviller.
 Fishing:

  • Fishing licence obligatory: on sale at the “Tabac du Canal” in Lutzelbourg.

Information on the waterways

Waterways:
The locks on the Canal de la Marne au Rhin are automatic (chain of locks). Open every day (except on the 1st May and 1st November) from 7 am to 7 pm. From 17/03 to 14/06 and from 16/09 to 10/10, on week-ends and bank holidays they are open from 9 am to 6 pm.

Tunnel & boat lift always close 1 hour earlier. Canal des Houillères de la Sarre: All the locks are automatic. Free navigation from 01/04 to 31/10 from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm.
